South Korea's government is set to designate six new public housing zones in Gyeonggi Province, surrounding the capital Seoul, to construct over 76,700 homes. Announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Thursday, the initiative is part of a broader effort to increase housing supply. The proposed locations in Gimpo, Guri, Hanam, Uijeongbu, and Goyang are situated within 5 kilometers of Seoul's borders. These sites are in greenbelt areas where environmental conservation value has already diminished, making them suitable for systematic development. Land Minister Hong Jee-sun highlighted the importance of expanding housing options for young people and newlyweds.
