Sir Kevin Sinfield has been knighted for his services to the motor neurone disease (MND) community and to rugby league and union. The former England rugby league captain received the honour from the Prince of Wales at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Sinfield, who has raised over £11 million for MND charities, said his late friend and former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow would have been "laughing" but "enormously proud" to see him receive the knighthood. Burrow died in 2024 after living with MND for four years.
"I think he'd be enormously proud of the support behind a campaign that he started, and we continue in his name," Sinfield said of Burrow. "I think he'd be really proud of it, the support, and the way people got behind what we tried to do, especially Prince William and Princess Catherine, and several other high-profile figures across the UK, and the world."
Sinfield, 46, described the experience as "massively humbling" and said he was "very proud to accept it on behalf of the MND community and their families". He noted the Prince of Wales's support for their campaign.
Olympic triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee was also among those honoured, receiving an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to triathlon and charity.
