ScrollEd aims to transform textbooks into TikTok-style feeds

Utsav Gupta, ScrollEd's co-founder, explained that the younger demographic, particularly 18-year-olds, are increasingly consuming content in a short-form, vertical feed format, which presents challenges for in-depth learning. ScrollEd's approach seeks to meet these users where they are, making it as easy to go deeper into a topic as it is to move to the next video. Gupta, who bootstrapped ScrollEd this year with his wife and co-founder Rebecca Neff, noted their own dissatisfaction with doomscrolling before bed as a catalyst for the idea.

The startup is targeting educational institutions, corporate training programs, and individuals seeking a more engaging way to consume information. ScrollEd will launch its consumer business at the TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield 200 competition. The company plans to utilize a freemium model, offering a free consumer feed alongside a paid ScrollEd Pro subscription and annual institutional licenses. Institutions will pay for access to deliver educational material and receive reports on user engagement and progress data.

In the coming months, ScrollEd intends to focus on its consumer launch, expand its lesson library, refine its source-checking workflow, and develop pilot programs for institutions. The company also aims to build infrastructure that will eventually enable educators to assess individual learners and tailor content to their specific needs.
