At least nine people were killed and 36 others injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past day, according to local authorities. The casualties include five people killed when a Russian drone struck a passenger bus in the Nikopol district of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on the morning of September 16.
Local Governor Oleksandr Hanzha stated that the drone strike killed five people at the scene and injured at least seven others. Human Rights Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets condemned the attack, noting that Russia "almost every day" strikes civilian transport.
This attack followed a wave of Russian strikes on Dnipropetrovsk Oblast the previous evening, which injured two people and involved over 10 attacks across three districts using drones, artillery, and aerial bombs, according to Hanzha.
Overnight, Russian forces launched 80 drones, including Shahed-type and jet-powered variants, as well as Gerbera and decoy drones. Ukrainian air defenses successfully shot down 63 of these drones, though strikes were recorded at seven locations, and debris from downed drones fell at two sites, the Air Force reported.
In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, one person was killed and seven were injured in Russian attacks on the city and surrounding district. Regional authorities reported 746 strikes against 52 settlements in the region over the past day.
Kherson Oblast also reported casualties, with one person killed and seven injured. Russian forces targeted critical infrastructure and residential areas, damaging three apartment buildings, agricultural machinery, and vehicles.
In Donetsk Oblast, two people were killed in Sloviansk and one person was injured. In Kharkiv Oblast, 12 people were injured by Russian attacks, which included guided aerial bombs and various types of drones.
Kyiv Oblast experienced damage to 17 sites from Russian drone attacks in Bila Tserkva, Boryspil, Brovary, Bucha, and Obukhiv districts. In the Obukhiv district, a driver sustained a concussion from a blast wave after a house, tractor, and vehicle were damaged.
