Ukraine and the U.S. have reached a political agreement on licenses for Patriot missile interceptor production, with key supplies expected soon. President Zelenskyy also discussed drone deals and a separate anti-missile system with European allies, following his meeting with President Trump at the NATO summit.
The agreement on Patriot missile production and the ongoing discussions on drone deals signal continued Western military support for Ukraine, potentially bolstering its defense capabilities against Russian attacks. President Trump's engagement at the NATO summit also highlights ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a resolution to the conflict.
Ukraine and the United States have reached a political agreement on licenses for the production of PAC-3 Patriot interceptor missiles, with key supplies expected to arrive in the coming days, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy also indicated that discussions are ongoing with the U.S. regarding a 'drone deal' and joint drone production, as well as with European allies on a separate anti-missile system.
These developments followed Zelenskyy's meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the NATO summit, where the Ukrainian leader described their discussions as productive and constructive, noting Trump's positive stance on Ukraine. Zelenskyy had previously briefed Trump on the battlefield situation and expressed optimism about ending the war with American support.
Earlier in the story, sources indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin was likely to escalate the conflict, rejecting peace calls despite Trump's optimism. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Ukrainian strikes might prolong the war and necessitate a larger security zone, countering U.S. beliefs that such strikes could end the conflict. The NATO summit itself was set to focus on allied defense spending, with commitments of nearly $139 billion in additional spending, and a push for allies to reach NATO's five-percent defense spending benchmark.
