President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has fallen to 40%, its lowest point since he took office in June last year, according to a poll by Gallup Korea. The survey, conducted from Tuesday to Thursday among 1,001 adults, showed a 2-percentage-point drop from the previous week, while his disapproval rating increased to 51%, the highest since his term began.
Reasons cited for positive assessments included the economy and livelihoods (14%), diplomacy (13%), and overall performance (10%). Conversely, negative assessments were primarily driven by real estate policies (23%), followed by economic concerns (11%) and personnel appointments (9%). The pollster noted that concerns over appointments appeared linked to Lee's recent nomination of six new ministers in a Cabinet reshuffle.
In terms of party support, the ruling Democratic Party saw its rating fall 1 percentage point to 38%, while the main opposition People Power Party gained 5 percentage points to reach a record 30% under the current administration. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
