Chinese autonomous driving company Pony.ai and ride-sharing giant Uber have announced an expansion of their strategic partnership, aiming to deploy over 2,000 robotaxis across Europe and the Middle East. This collaboration builds upon their existing commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, which launched in 2026.
The expanded agreement will see the robotaxi service extended to four additional unnamed cities in Europe. Details regarding the rollout timeline for these new locations will be announced in phases. Pony.ai will contribute its Level 4 autonomous driving technology, rider-experience expertise, and operational know-how, leveraging its experience from large-scale robotaxi deployments in China.
Uber will provide access to its global mobility platform, managing bookings, payments, and customer service. Day-to-day fleet operations are expected to be handled by local fleet partners in each market. The partnership first began in May 2025 with a focus on the Middle East, and earlier this year, the companies announced plans to launch a commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, with local company Verne.
