Political groups are intensifying training for thousands of poll watchers ahead of the November midterm elections. Both Democratic and Republican-aligned organizations are preparing volunteers to monitor polling places and respond to potential issues, including voter intimidation and disinformation.
The extensive preparations by both major political parties for poll watching and election monitoring underscore heightened concerns about election integrity and potential interference in the upcoming midterm elections.
As the November midterm elections approach, political organizations are ramping up training for poll watchers and volunteers. Tea Party Patriots Action, described as the nation's largest Tea Party group, is preparing thousands of individuals to serve as poll watchers and workers in several battleground states, including Nevada, Arizona, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Trainings have already been conducted in Ohio, Texas, and Georgia.
Simultaneously, the Democratic Party is launching a nationwide initiative called the New Battlefield Project. This program aims to train tens of thousands of volunteers to monitor polling places, combat potential voter intimidation, and respond to disinformation. The Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC), an arm of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), plans to cover 57 states and territories, with a goal of training volunteers for 25% of the country's 95,000 election day polling places, particularly in competitive districts. These volunteers will wear blue vests to create a visible presence intended to deter intimidation. The party is also promoting an early-vote campaign, urging voters to cast their ballots by mail or in person ahead of election day.
