A politician testified in a Sydney court that an alleged victim of broadcaster Alan Jones appeared uncharacteristically "sunken and diminished" during a meeting. The former MP, whose identity is being withheld to protect complainant C, stated that C, who was once Jones's driver, was usually outgoing but seemed anxious and uncomfortable when meeting with Jones about a potential board role at his Circular Quay apartment.
The court heard that C did not speak or make eye contact during the meeting, which was unusual for him. C had previously told the court that the meeting left him anxious and uncomfortable, despite sending Jones a text expressing enjoyment of the encounter. The defense challenged C on this discrepancy.
Earlier in the trial, friends and colleagues testified that C had confided over the years about being indecently assaulted by Jones when he was a young man. One former colleague recounted C alleging that Jones "reached into his crotch and squeezed it" while reminiscing about his time working for 2GB. C reportedly responded that "that's just Alan, that's his behaviour," noting Jones's power at the radio station.
Statements from C's father-in-law, read in court, indicated that Jones had invited C into his apartment and was wearing only a dressing gown with nothing underneath, exposing himself. C also disclosed to his father-in-law in 2023 that Jones had "pushed him up against the wall and kissed me," a hurt he had not previously shared.
Other witnesses provided further allegations, including inappropriate text messages about genitals, Jones making inappropriate comments about sexual orientation, and instances of being "grabbed on the cock" and "kissed." One colleague recalled C stating that when driving Jones, he would "put his hand on his leg and go the grope." Another former schoolmate mentioned C recounting an incident where Jones "tried to kiss me in the lift once."
Alan Jones has pleaded not guilty to 20 charges of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching against six complainants. The trial is ongoing before Judge Glenn Walsh.
