A witness in the trial of broadcaster Alan Jones has testified that he sent Jones text messages praising him as 'the greatest broadcaster there's ever been' and offering to refute 'lies'. The witness, described as a loyal friend of Jones, also admitted to sending messages in late 2023 after journalist Kate McClymont published an article detailing allegations against the former 2GB host. During cross-examination, the witness agreed he had called McClymont 'evil', a 'bitch', and a 'low breed', and referred to those who hated Jones as 'sick' and 'people of the left'.
Jones, 85, has pleaded not guilty to 20 indecent assault charges and two counts of sexual touching involving six men. The witness told the court he could not recall being at a Mosman restaurant for a lunch hosted by Jones in 2008 and had never seen Jones do anything inappropriate. The prosecutor suggested the witness was more concerned with loyalty to Jones than with answering questions truthfully. Earlier in the trial, another guest alleged Jones had his hand under the table while sitting next to a complainant who appeared 'distraught'. The witness also agreed that he had described the allegations against Jones as a 'witch hunt' and told Jones that working with him were the best years of his life.
