Paramount explores Nashville office space amid California departure considerations

Makan Delrahim, Paramount's Chief Legal Officer, stated in August that the company's CEO, David Ellison, is committed to California but also acknowledged a fiduciary duty to shareholders. Paramount, which owns assets like its namesake streaming service and CBS, is the last major studio with its headquarters in Hollywood. A departure from its historic Melrose Avenue studio would represent a significant economic and symbolic loss for the region, which has already seen over 42,000 film and television jobs disappear between 2022 and 2024.

Tennessee has been actively pursuing Paramount, and other states like Georgia have also been mentioned as potential destinations. Oracle, a tech company co-founded by Larry Ellison, announced its relocation to Nashville in 2024, though its new headquarters are not yet open. Delrahim emphasized the importance of evaluating the business environment to determine the best location for the company and its stakeholders.

Any announcement of Paramount leaving California would significantly impact the ongoing antitrust litigation, spearheaded by California Attorney General Rob Bonta. Bonta has previously characterized Paramount's threat to relocate as "blackmail." The parties are scheduled to meet in San Francisco next month for court-mandated settlement talks. Voluntary discussions planned for August were canceled by Bonta, who alleged that Paramount leaked confidential details of the prospective meetings, a claim the company has denied.
