Nvidia is reportedly in discussions to either increase its investment in or acquire Reflection AI, an artificial intelligence startup specializing in automating software development. The Financial Times reported on Saturday, citing sources with direct knowledge, that the talks are in their early stages and could lead to various outcomes, including a potential acqui-hire. This arrangement would allow Nvidia to hire Reflection AI's staff and license its technology, possibly bypassing a lengthy regulatory review.
An agreement might be reached within weeks, though the report cautioned that the discussions could still fail. Nvidia has previously invested $800 million in Reflection AI, making it a significant financial and strategic backer. Reflection AI, founded in 2024 by former DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, aims to compete in coding and agentic tasks with its newly launched open-weight model, Beam, targeting lower-cost Chinese models.
In April, Reflection AI's CEO, Misha Laskin, stated the company was raising fresh capital at a pre-money valuation of $25 billion.
