Japanese automotive parts supplier Niterra has canceled its planned acquisition of rival Denso's spark plug and exhaust gas sensor businesses, the companies announced Friday. Denso requested the cancellation due to shifts in the market, citing the expected widespread adoption of electrified vehicles and the need for powertrain diversification across different regions.
Niterra, known for its NGK spark plugs, would have gained control of more than half of the global market for these components had the deal proceeded. The two companies had signed an agreement for the business transfer on September 1, 2025, following a memorandum of understanding signed on July 10, 2023.
