Broadcaster Nicky Campbell has told a court he was violently attacked by a teacher at Edinburgh Academy in the 1970s. The BBC Radio 5 Live presenter was giving evidence at an examination of facts hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
Campbell, 65, described how teacher Colin Turner "completely lost it" and attacked him in the school courtyard when he was around 15 years old. He told the court he was "yanked from behind", "rag dolled", slapped, and dragged across the playground. He described the incident as "traumatic" and "one of the worst things that ever happened to me".
Turner, 92, and another former teacher, David Bourne, 72, are accused of attacking pupils at the prestigious fee-paying school. However, both have been deemed medically unfit to stand trial. A sheriff will now hear evidence in the case to determine whether there are grounds for a conviction.
