A special court designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar has issued a proclamation against Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin and three other accused in connection with a 1996 militancy-related case. The court directed them to appear before it by July 14, 2026.
The proclamation has been issued against Mohammad Yousuf Shah, alias Syed Salahuddin, of Soibugh in Budgam district; Ghulam Nabi Khan alias Amir Khan of Srigufwara in Anantnag; Sher Mohammad alias alias Riyaz of Bandipora; and Nasir Yousuf Qadri of Bemina, Srinagar. All are accused in FIR No. 05/1996 registered at CIK Srinagar.
The accused face charges under various sections of the erstwhile RPC, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and E&IMCO. Prosecution informed the court that despite arrest warrants and efforts, the accused could not be traced and were evading arrest. Court records indicate that warrants remained unexecuted, with police reporting the accused as absconding.
