Chris Pappas has won the Democratic Senate primary in New Hampshire, defeating progressive challenger Karishma Manzur. Pappas, a congressman, will face former Senator John Sununu in the general election, a race considered critical for Democratic hopes of controlling the Senate. Sununu, who previously served in the Senate from 2003 to 2009, secured the Republican nomination with an endorsement from Donald Trump, despite past criticisms of the former president.
Democratic strategists are warning that the race should not be taken for granted, emphasizing the need for increased resources and attention to counter Sununu's popularity and Republican spending. GOP groups have reportedly outspent Democrats on advertising, prompting calls for national Democrats to increase financial support for Pappas. While Pappas has outraised Sununu, the cash-on-hand advantage is not substantial, leading to concerns about the race tightening.
