Betsy Graseck, a Managing Director and Global Head of Banks and Diversified Finance Research at Morgan Stanley, is retiring after a career spanning 40 years. Graseck has been a prominent figure in financial analysis, particularly in the US Large Cap Banks sector, which she began covering in 2002.
Throughout her career, Graseck has garnered numerous accolades, including being recognized as the #1 stock picker in US Banks by Starmine in 2018 and in US Commercial Banks in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, she was ranked as the #6 stock picker across all sectors in the US. She was also named Starmine's #1 Earnings Estimator in Capital Markets in 2016 and has been consistently ranked in the Institutional Investor poll.
Graseck's experience extends beyond US banking. She served as Associate Director of Equity Research for TMT from 1998 to 2002. Earlier, from 1992 to 1998, she was based in Tokyo, covering Japanese Banks, Brokers, and Consumer Finance stocks and was ranked in the Institutional Investor All-Asia Research Team Poll. Before her time in Tokyo, Graseck worked as a consultant in KPMG’s bank group, focusing on capital and reserve adequacy, balance-sheet restructuring, and profit-improvement projects.
Her tenure at Morgan Stanley began in 1986, following a year at Gunma Bank. Graseck holds a BA in Japanese studies with a minor in economics from Cornell University, studied at Waseda University, and earned an MBA from Columbia University. She also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
