Democrat Daniel Koh is projected to win his party’s primary for the House seat in Massachusetts' 6th Congressional District, a seat left open by Representative Seth Moulton. Koh, who served in the White House under President Biden, secured significant endorsements from Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Koh faced a competitive primary against progressive state Representative Tram Nguyen. With 68 percent of the vote reported, Koh led Nguyen by approximately 10 percentage points, with Koh receiving about 41 percent of the vote to Nguyen's 30 percent. Veterinarian Mariah Lancaster, who had dropped out and endorsed Nguyen, was also on the ballot.
Representative Seth Moulton, who had represented the district for a decade, opted not to seek re-election to the House and instead challenged Senator Ed Markey in the Democratic Senate primary. Markey successfully defended his seat, defeating Moulton.
Koh is expected to win the general election in the heavily Democratic district. He will face Republican Micah Jones, a lawyer and Army veteran who ran unopposed for the GOP nomination. Koh previously ran for Congress in 2018 in Massachusetts' 3rd Congressional District, losing to Representative Lori Trahan. He also served as chief of staff for Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, who later became Secretary of Labor under Biden.
