Lufthansa Technik Philippines, a joint venture between Germany's Lufthansa Technik and MacroAsia Corporation, has initiated construction of a new aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Clark International Airport. This marks the company's second major base in the Philippines, complementing its existing operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The new facility, situated on a 157,000-square-meter site, represents a significant investment in the "three-digit-million-dollar" range. It is designed to accommodate up to nine widebody aircraft simultaneously, including capabilities for dedicated aircraft painting and non-destructive testing. The project is expected to be operational by 2028 and aims to create approximately 1,200 skilled jobs, reinforcing the Philippines' position as an aviation services hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key figures from Lufthansa Technik Philippines, MacroAsia, project partners, government agencies, and aviation industry stakeholders. German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. acknowledged the project as a milestone in German-Philippine economic cooperation during Steinmeier's state visit.
