French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France, a significant event within the 'India-France Year of Innovation'. The three-day conclave, running from June 14-16, showcases over 120 Indian deep-tech startups and 15 higher education institutions, attracting more than 500 investors. India is also serving as the AI Partner Country at VivaTech 2026 in Paris.

Macron hailed India as a "major innovation nation" and used the opening to warn against the monopolization of advanced AI technologies and the restriction of international cooperation. He advocated for open cooperation and ethical development, highlighting France's leading role in AI job creation within the EU, with nearly 20,000 AI-related positions created in Paris since 2023.

Prime Minister Modi underscored India's evolution from a technology adopter to a provider, stating that innovation is inherent in India's DNA. He pointed to the transformative potential of AI and satellite technology for rural development, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy solutions. The event aims to connect Indian innovators with global stakeholders across 13 critical technology pillars.

Following the tech showcase, Macron and Modi were scheduled for bilateral talks at Villa Kérylos before both delegations were to travel to Évian-les-Bains for the G7 summit.
