Huawei Technologies has launched BoGuan, a multimodal large language model (LLM) specifically designed for cultural tourism in China's Shaanxi province, including the popular destination of Xi'an. Unveiled in September 2025, BoGuan aims to preserve cultural heritage and enhance the visitor experience by generating digital content, creating personalized itineraries, and supporting the production of short dramas.
The model is built on Huawei's intelligent computing infrastructure and a comprehensive dataset exceeding 1.2 petabytes, comprising millions of images, videos, audio recordings, 3D models, and structured text. This extensive data allows BoGuan to generate accurate, culturally authentic content, such as museum-quality descriptions of relics and digital representations of traditional craftsmanship. It also supports the creation of digital intellectual property, exemplified by the cartoon character Tang Biaobiao, which has generated over CNY2 million in sales of related digital collectibles and products.
In addition to heritage preservation, BoGuan powers various cultural tourism applications. These include an AI travel companion agent available on the GO-SHAANXI app, which helps users create and adjust travel itineraries and receive real-time performance recommendations. An AI photography app, the Zhiying Camera mini program, allows visitors to integrate their photos with historical scenes for a fee. SCG is also leveraging BoGuan to integrate short drama production with cultural tourism in Xi'an.
Furthermore, Huawei and China Telecom Shaanxi have deployed a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network at Xi'an's Grand Tang Mall, offering significantly faster uplink and downlink speeds compared to standard 5G. This network supported over 23,000 concurrent users during the 2026 May Day holiday, ensuring smooth online experiences. High-definition live streaming powered by 5G-A at the mall has reportedly doubled average user dwell time and increased average transaction value by 62%, serving as a key tool for attracting visitors.
