Residents who lost their homes in Hong Kong's deadly Tai Po fire began selecting their replacement flats on Tuesday. The selection process is part of a HK$7.8 billion (US$994 million) government plan to buy back flats at the eight-block subsidised housing estate, Wang Fuk Court, following the blaze last November. Participants in the scheme have the option to use their cash compensation to purchase a flat on the private open market. Some residents have called on authorities to introduce stamp duty waivers to help ease their financial burden during this process.
