Hearing tech startup Legato announced on Thursday that its AI-based hearing glasses, Legato Frames, are now available for purchase. The glasses integrate hearing assistance technology into the arms of eyewear frames, aiming to make hearing care more accessible.
Priced starting at $999, Legato Frames are designed for adults experiencing up to moderate hearing loss. Unlike traditional hearing aids, Legato's AI system distinguishes voices from background noise, amplifying speech while reducing unwanted sounds. The glasses feature an open-ear design with a dual-speaker system that directs sound toward the wearer and cancels escaping sound, reducing it by 99% a few inches away.
All processing is done directly on the glasses, which weigh 34 grams with lenses and offer 10-12 hours of battery life. The frames are available in three styles and support prescription lenses and Bluetooth streaming. The launch follows Legato's emergence from stealth with $12 million in funding from Neotribe Ventures, Listen, and Village Global.
Legato was founded in 2024 by Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine, who previously worked on wearables and hearing care at Bose. Trivedi also led smart eyewear efforts at EssilorLuxottica, working on Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, while Romine was COO of Audicus. Legato Frames can be purchased on the startup's website or through select U.S. eye care providers and may be eligible for vision insurance coverage.
