Guatemala received 2,300 Mexicans deported from US this year

Arevalo clarified that Guatemala does not function as a 'safe third country' for these migrants, and they were neither housed nor granted asylum. The costs associated with this process were covered by either U.S. or Mexican authorities.

This tactic, reportedly employed by the Trump administration, aims to deter migration by rerouting deported Mexicans to third countries like Guatemala and Honduras, even when Mexico is willing to receive them directly. Mexico's Foreign Ministry had previously stated it rejected such agreements. Honduras' Foreign Ministry reported no information on the matter, and a center for returned migrants there also stated it had not received deported Mexican citizens. However, one individual interviewed by Telemundo claimed to have been flown to Honduras before returning to Mexico.
