Green Party leader Zack Polanski announced Thursday he intends to stand as a candidate in the upcoming Holborn and St Pancras by-election, a seat vacated by Keir Starmer's resignation.

Polanski, who is currently a London Assembly member, stated his intention to stand in an interview with the Camden New Journal. He expressed excitement about representing the central London constituency, which has historically been a safe seat for the Labour Party. Polanski said he would fight for constituents and accused Labour of backing "corporations and big money."

In the 2024 general election, Starmer won re-election with a reduced vote share. The leftist activist Andrew Feinstein secured nearly 19% of the vote, while the Greens received 10.4%, compared to Starmer's approximately 49%.

Labour councillor Sagal Abdi-Wali is considered a frontrunner to be the Labour candidate for the seat.
