California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he will not seek the presidency in 2028 if Vice President Kamala Harris decides to run. Newsom, considered a potential frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, told CNN that a contest between him and Harris would be redundant and a disservice to voters.
"I wouldn’t do that to her," Newsom said in an interview with Jake Tapper. "I wouldn’t waste everybody’s time." He described the potential overlap in their political platforms as a "pure cross over" and stated, "I wouldn’t do that to people."
