Garena has relaunched its popular battle royale game, Free Fire, in India with a localized version called Free Fire India, more than four years after the original game was banned by New Delhi over national security concerns. The new version, available on Android and iOS, includes India-specific content, enhanced parental controls, playtime limits, and spending caps, with user data hosted on local servers. Garena’s parent company, Sea, saw its shares tumble significantly when the game was initially banned in February 2022. Despite the ban, Garena continued to develop games for the Indian market. Free Fire India will be available alongside Free Fire MAX, allowing players to use the same accounts and participate in shared events.
