Kodiak AI has secured its first binding commercial contract to supply 75 driverless trucks to DTL Transport, a mid-market trucking company. Deliveries are slated to begin in 2028, with the trucks intended for use on multiple interstate highway routes, including Dallas to El Paso, Texas, and between Dallas and Atlanta. This agreement comes as Kodiak prepares to remove human safety operators from its trucks for highway services starting in December, initially for Ikea between Dallas and Houston. The company aims to transition to an "asset-light" model, licensing its technology rather than owning and operating the fleet itself, a strategy also pursued by competitor Aurora Innovation.
