DoorDash has received several hundred orders in total from third-party AI agents such as Meta's Muse, CEO Tony Xu said during the company's earnings call on Thursday. By comparison, DoorDash delivered 3.2 billion orders worldwide in 2025.
Xu said customers still use DoorDash's app and website to place orders. "For the everyday ordering, what we see is people come to DoorDash, and they come back to DoorDash," he said.
DoorDash said in September that it was testing a text-to-order feature with an interface reminiscent of Instinct, and a chatbot called Ask DoorDash that creates an order from a recipe or shopping list and can adjust contents to match customer preferences. Xu said those tools could eventually generate new orders on DoorDash.
"My take on all things technology is you never want to fight gravity," Xu said. "But, at the same time, you do not want to be delusional," he added, referring to the low number of agent-placed orders.
