Chinese corporations are significantly reducing their cash donations to charities, a trend driven by the country's economic slowdown. This shift is reshaping the landscape of philanthropy in China, moving away from direct financial contributions towards in-kind support such as logistical and technological assistance.
According to a report by the Social Sciences Academic Press, total charitable giving in China has declined for the fourth consecutive year. In 2024, donations fell by 8.7% compared to the previous year, reaching 126 billion yuan, which is approximately $18.78 billion. This figure represents a substantial 17.86% decrease from the peak of 153.4 billion yuan recorded in 2020.
