A proposed 5% tax on the assets of California's wealthiest residents, known as Proposition 40, is struggling to gain majority support among likely voters. A new Citrin-POLITICO poll indicates that 46% of voters favor the measure, while 43% oppose it, showing little change from a month prior. This static support comes despite efforts by proponents, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, to rally backing for the one-time tax. Ballot initiative veterans view this lack of movement this late in the campaign as a concerning sign for the measure's chances. A separate poll also showed support at 45%, down from February, with 43% against and 12% undecided. A significant 83% of likely voters have heard about Proposition 40, with those who have heard a great deal opposing it by a 57-38 margin.
