The Boox Palma 2 Pro is a $400 E Ink device designed for users seeking a comfortable and portable reading experience, distinct from traditional e-readers and smartphones. Its compact size and light weight aim to alleviate eye strain and discomfort associated with reading on phones for extended periods. The device runs Android, allowing access to Google Play and third-party applications, including popular reading apps like Kindle and Kobo, as well as audiobook and podcast services. Users can adjust the front-lit screen's lighting between cool and warm tones, and dim it to very low levels for reading in darkness without disturbing others. While it offers versatility, some apps may exhibit sluggish performance due to E Ink's refresh rate, and images are less vibrant than on smartphone screens. The device also features a rear camera, a built-in speaker, and a hybrid SIM slot. Battery life is rated at 5-7 days, and a refresh button helps mitigate screen ghosting. Boox is also releasing a non-Pro Palma 3 for $340 with a black and white display.
