The Browser Company announced on Thursday that its Arc browser will be discontinued on December 22, 2026, with users being directed to its AI-first browser, Dia. The company cited the increasing costs of maintaining browser security in the age of AI as the reason for the shift. New Arc accounts are no longer available, and features will be progressively removed. Arc Search will lose its AI capabilities on November 23, and by December 22, the browser will cease to function on Mac and Windows, with user data deleted within 30 days. Arc Search will also be removed from the Google Play Store. The Browser Company, acquired by Atlassian for $610 million in 2025, stated that Dia surpasses Arc in performance and security benchmarks. Despite user disappointment and requests to open-source Arc, CEO Josh Miller explained that its proprietary Arc Development Kit (ADK) is core to the company's value and cannot be open-sourced independently.
