Former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt is under investigation by Belgian federal prosecutors concerning his supervision of European Parliament interns during his tenure as leader of the liberal ALDE group from 2009 to 2019. The investigation, initially reported by Belgian magazine Knack, began this year and is being conducted by Belgian authorities on behalf of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
