Bangkok has declared a flood disaster across all 50 of its districts following days of heavy rainfall that overwhelmed the Thai capital, submerging roads and forcing thousands of residents to evacuate to shelters. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported that nearly 4,900 people have been evacuated, with approximately 52,000 households affected by the deluge. Some areas received over 330mm of rain between Thursday and Sunday, with residents describing the flooding as worse than the devastating 2011 floods that killed over 500 people and damaged millions of homes across Thailand. Many ground floors were left soaked, and some residents reported losing large electrical appliances. City schools are set to close on Monday, and authorities are working to speed up drainage efforts.
