At least 17 people were killed in a multi-vehicle collision on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway in Kenya early Saturday morning. The crash occurred at Mlima Kiu in the Salama area around 12:10 a.m. on October 3, 2026.
According to police, a Howo Sinotruk truck traveling from Nairobi towards Mombasa attempted to overtake a fleet of vehicles. The truck driver allegedly failed to keep to his lane and collided with the rear right side of a Hino truck. The Sinotruk then lost control and swerved into the oncoming lane, hitting a Peugeot and a Toyota Noah traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi. The out-of-control truck subsequently collided head-on with a Toyota Hiace PSV matatu carrying 12 passengers.
