Apple unveils iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, starting at $1,999

Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the introduction of the iPhone Duo. The device boasts a dual-display system, featuring a large 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display on the inside with a nano-texture finish to reduce glare and a 5.4-inch cover screen. Apple claims the iPhone Duo is the thinnest iPhone ever when open, measuring 5.2mm, and weighs 254 grams with a titanium frame. The company highlighted reimagined iOS experiences designed for the foldable form factor, offering versatility in various poses and orientations. The inner display is constructed with 10 ultrathin layers and offers a 3000 nits peak brightness. The iPhone Duo is positioned as ideal for media consumption, functioning as a compact iPhone that can also serve as an iPad Mini when unfolded. It supports multitasking with up to two apps. The device also features an advanced camera system, including 48MP Fusion Wide and Ultra Wide cameras, and a 12MP Center Stage front camera, along with an under-display FaceTime camera. Special camera features like Duo Preview, Kid Cue, Smart Take, and Duo FaceTime are included to enhance user experience. The iPhone Duo comes with Apple's Ceramic Shield 2 on the cover and Ceramic Shield on the back, and has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The iPhone Duo will start at $1,999 for 256GB of storage in the US, with preorders beginning October 16 and release scheduled for October 23. This launch coincides with the unveiling of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
