Anthropic announced on November 5, 2026 that its Claude chatbot is getting a tool called Personal Finance, designed to help users track their money. Users can connect bank and credit card accounts through Plaid and ask Claude questions about their finances. Anthropic said access is read-only, meaning the tool cannot move, manage or invest users' money.
In a blog post, Anthropic said: "Claude gives you answers in everyday language, from your balances and transactions, and explains any term that's new to you." The company added that Personal Finance carries no ads or sponsored recommendations and does not offer credit cards, loans or savings accounts of its own.
The tool sums spending across connected accounts and sorts it by category such as rent and utilities, food and drink, and shopping. Anthropic said it also analyzes transactions to flag potential issues including duplicate charges, unexpected fees and steadily increasing bills, and can explain concepts such as APR, the annual percentage rate, while showing how much a user paid in interest over the past year.
Anthropic said Claude's access is limited to each connected bank's name, account name and type, the last four digits of the account number, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transaction history. The company said conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models.
Personal Finance began rolling out in beta in the week of November 5, 2026 to users on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the U.S. The launch follows OpenAI's introduction of similar personal finance tools in ChatGPT in May 2026, and Anthropic's launches of Claude for Legal and Claude for Financial Services earlier in 2026.
