Separately, former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss is reportedly involved in a bid to launch a new Mayfair business club named 'The Leconfield'. This venture aims to raise £350 million from 700 'founder members' who would each pay £500,000 for a lifetime, inheritable membership. According to pitching documents, £200 million of this target would be used to pay off the mortgage on Leconfield House, with the remaining £150 million allocated for redecoration.
Truss has indicated she is a 'commercial person' and is understood to have a paid role in managing The Leconfield's membership list and making introductions. The club intends to leverage artificial intelligence to track attendees and suggest potential business connections via an app. Its target audience includes executives from major corporations, tech leaders, ultra-wealthy individuals, and partners from private equity, hedge funds, and professional services firms.
The Leconfield project is the initiative of property developer Robert Tchenguiz, who has owned the building with his brother Vincent since the late 1990s. Previous attempts to change the building's use from offices to a hotel or residences were unsuccessful. A recent application for a premises licence, filed in October 2025 and amended in November, is still pending a decision. The revised application outlines plans for private office and co-working spaces, with licensed areas including a basement event space, ground floor restaurants, and a bar.
