Zelenskiy: Ukraine submitted peace proposals to US negotiators

Zelenskiy conveyed Ukraine's proposals to the American side, emphasizing that the U.S. could help bolster Ukraine's defense, particularly with air defense systems, and pressure Russia to prepare for an end to the war. Details of these proposals were not disclosed.

U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner last visited Moscow in January and have not yet traveled to Kyiv. Ukraine has consistently called for a ceasefire after nearly four and a half years of fighting. Russia maintains it desires a settlement but insists on Ukraine ceding four regions it claims and resolving the conflict's "root causes."

Zelenskiy also cited evidence from Ukrainian intelligence suggesting Russia plans a new mobilization after the September "pseudo-election," aiming to create an appearance of public support for the war. He stated that this would be in addition to contract recruitments, with further mobilizations planned for the end of the year and into the next.

The United Russia Party and other pro-Kremlin parties are expected to maintain dominance in the Russian parliament. Notably, Russia's Supreme Court recently barred the liberal Yabloko party, the only registered party opposing the war, from participating in the election. Russian officials have not commented on the potential for new mobilization, though former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated last month that 200,000 volunteers had signed contracts in the first half of 2026, negating the need for further mobilization.
