U.S. President Donald Trump has invoked the Defense Production Act to address constraints in weapons supply and development for munitions production and supply chains. In a memorandum to the Pentagon chief, Trump stated, "I hereby find that conditions exist which may pose a direct threat to the national defense or its preparedness programs." He cited "limited production capacity, fragile supply chains, long-lead dependencies, and related production bottlenecks" as reasons for the invocation. The move is designed to bolster domestic defense manufacturing capabilities. Critics state that stockpiles have been strained by the war in Iran and other conflicts. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, however, has downplayed concerns over US stockpiles, stating last month that "the munitions issue has been foolishly and unhelpfully overstated" and that "we have plenty of what we need."
