Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, V. Somanna, on Thursday flagged off the Madgaon–Karwar Express service from Madgaon Railway Station in Goa. This new train service is expected to significantly enhance rail connectivity between Goa and the coastal districts of Karnataka.
The introduction of the Madgaon–Karwar Express is anticipated to provide a convenient, affordable, and efficient travel option for commuters, students, tourists, and business travelers. Railway officials stated that the service aims to further promote tourism, trade, and socio-economic development across the region.
Minister Somanna remarked that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Indian Railways has undergone modernization and expansion focused on improving connectivity and passenger experience. He emphasized that this new service reflects the government's dedication to meeting public aspirations and strengthening regional ties.
Goa Public Works Minister Digambar Kamat expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Railways for fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people in Goa and neighboring Karnataka districts. He believes the service will benefit daily commuters, students, and tourists, while also contributing to economic growth and fostering closer relationships between the two regions.
Konkan Railway Director (Way and Works) Rajivkumar Mishra, Regional Railway Manager Asha Shetty, along with other senior railway officials, public representatives, staff, and citizens, were present at the flagging-off ceremony. The event saw enthusiastic participation from passengers and the public, underscoring the demand for such services.
