The New York City Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying multiple men accused of attacking a San Antonio Spurs fan after the New York Knicks lost a recent NBA Finals game. The incident occurred around 12:17 a.m. as the 39-year-old victim was walking to his hotel.
According to the NYPD, the group of men allegedly punched and kicked the victim before tearing off his Spurs jersey. The suspects fled on foot to an unknown location. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries and is expected to survive.
This assault follows other disturbances reported after an NBA Finals viewing party in Manhattan, where some dejected Knicks fans engaged in reckless behavior, including pelting officers with objects and ripping signs. In total, eight people were arrested and 13 others were issued criminal court summonses in connection with those separate incidents. The area near Madison Square Garden was largely off-limits to the public due to heightened security for President Donald Trump's attendance at the game.
