Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan convened a meeting to review the preparedness of states for the upcoming NEET (UG) re-examination, scheduled for June 21. The review emphasized student convenience, security measures, and the integrity of the examination process. This re-test follows the cancellation of the May 3 examination due to widespread allegations of irregularities and paper leaks, which affected nearly 23 lakh registered candidates.
Top officials from various government departments, including the Railway Board, Department of School Education and Literacy, Department of Higher Education, and Department of Posts, as well as directors general of the CRPF, CISF, BCAS, and NTA, attended the meeting. The Chairman of the Railway Board assured full cooperation in facilitating smooth travel for students appearing for the re-examination.
The NEET (UG) 2026 exam was initially conducted across 551 Indian cities and 14 overseas centers. Information regarding alleged malpractice surfaced four days after the exam, leading to its cancellation and subsequent investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI has reportedly arrested paper setters, translators, and middlemen involved in passing examination materials to aspirants for substantial sums, with paper leaks allegedly occurring in Jharkhand and Bihar.
