Scientists have captured the sharpest ever images of the surface of the sun. The footage has revealed tiny, swirling, vortex-like patterns. The images were taken on a solar telescope used by the US National Science Foundation in Hawaii. Researchers say the swirls may help explain how energy builds up on the sun, causing solar flares and eruptions.
