US political analyst Aidan Smith claims US President Donald Trump’s objectives in Iran have changed, signalling he is focused solely on the Strait of Hormuz. “I think that as far as Trump’s own interest in the Middle East, it’s really just focused, I wouldn’t even say on lasting peace with Iran but really, just trying to secure something regarding the Strait of Hormuz,” Mr Smith told News24. “It does seem like the administration’s objectives of trying to slow Iran’s nuclear program or even their kind of effort to do regime change, right now, they really just want a temporary, at least until the midterms anyway, something concrete with the Strait of Hormuz.”
