FDD Iran Program Senior Director Benham Taleblu says the pro-American Iranian population has been “let down” by the fact US President Donald Trump has not followed through with his statement of help being on the way. “Ultimately, Iran is still home to the most pro-American and pro-Israeli population, and certainly they feel a bit let down by the fact, despite 2026 being begun by the biggest anti-regime protests in Iranian history,” Mr Taleblu told News24. “And President Trump making history by going further and being bolder than any American president, saying that help would be on the way. “Yet, once that help arrived, it was highly militarised, and it looked like it was only focused on the nuclear issue or the missile issue, or the military matters. “Now this debate over the Strait of Hormuz, no one is really talking about what a political win looks like for Trump, and no one is really talking about how to empower the streets.”
