News24 Defence Analyst Peter Jennings addressed the convergence of far-left and jihadist extremist groups, highlighting antisemitism as a common factor and warning of excessive tolerance of this in universities. “The one thing that united far-left extremist groups and jihadist extremism is antisemitism,” Mr Jennings told News24. “It has an Australian origin or at least a Western democratic origin. “We've tolerated this protest movement too far, and there's a spectrum of ideology here; there may be people who take it up as a sort of intellectual thought exercise, but there are a small number of people who are prepared to actually commit acts of violence. “We have been way too tolerant of allowing this to bubble up through our university system and to be something that seems to be acceptable to bring protestors out into the street.”
