Patriotism ‘out of fashion’ after Western establishments spent decades mocking national pride

Political theorist and Substacker Ralph Schoellhammer argues that patriotism and nationalism have been marginalised in Western political debate. “I mean, the patriots or the nationalists or those who still harbour these kinds of sentiments, who have been, by the way, mocked by the establishment for decades,” Mr Schoellhammer told News24 host Samara Gill. “Don't forget, until 2022, when the war between Russia and Ukraine started, nationalism and even the concept of patriotism were entirely out of fashion. “You couldn't even go out and say, I'm a patriot, I'm a nationalist.”
