Political Theorist and Substacker Ralph Schoellhammer argues French President Emmanuel Macron needs support from left-leaning parties to pass legislation, creating a conflict between his parliamentary ambitions and the need to respond to unrest. “His government wants to pass a budget and a couple of other laws and in order to do so in the French parliament, they need support of left-leaning parties,” Mr Schoellhammer told News24 host Samara Gill. “Those left -leaning parties are either completely or at least partially inside of the demonstrators and very often were actively instigating it. “That put him a little bit in a bind because he simultaneously should have cracked down on those demonstrators. “But at the same time, those who supported the demonstrators are the very people in parliament he needs for a couple of laws that he still wants to pass.”
